Hard Drive Upgrades

To upgrade permanent Finnix installations that were created via the hard drive installation notes, please see the Upgrades section.

Known Issues

  • "toram" and "testcd" will fail if the Finnix CD is burned in Track-At-Once (TAO) mode. Instead, you must use Disc-At-Once (DAO) mode. Please supply the -dao option to cdrecord, or check the "Disc-At-Once" option on burning programs such as Nero.

  • Added "set mark-symlinked-directories on" to /etc/inputrc
  • Replaced hwsetup with a new, faster "pcimodules" routine
  • Added dmidecode and selectable modules to finnix-hwsubmit
  • Added "dos" boot profile (boots into FreeDOS ODIN 0.7)
  • Recompiled static init against uclibc
  • Finnix will now be able to work as a Xen dom0
  • UML/XenU environments reworked, now use the standard minirt initrd instead of a custom initrd
  • Removed hwsetup, kudzu, hwdata-finnix, discover1, discover1-data, libdiscover1
  • Removed brltty support; brltty now depends on X libraries, and was never fully tested
  • Upgraded to SquashFS 3.0: all kernels and images, and userland tools
  • Fixed bug where hwclock was using UTC adjustments by default
  • "toram" now copies the entire CD to RAM
  • "testcd" now uses Red Hat's method of MD5 checksumming the entire CD
  • Removed ISA SCSI adapters from initrd
  • Added bootchart, with "bootchart" boot option
  • Disabled new Debian Acquire::PDiffs
  • Added bcm43xx-fwcutter
  • Changed "dma" boot option to "nodma".
  • Added DMA-bad blacklist to initrd (kernel should be doing that, but 2.6.17 seems to be skipping this)
  • Added readme.txt to CD
  • Converted all Finnix packages to true source packages
  • NTFS write support (via new NTFS-FUSE, "ntfsmount /dev/hda1 /mnt/ntfs")
