Finnix v88 fails to boot on an ibook2

I'm working on a project that will probably totally destroy any value left in my ibook2. I would like to use Finnix as kind of a starting point for me to achieve this, but I've run into a small snag.
My laptop won't even boot from a stock Finnix v88 iso. I've verified the iso via md5sum and everything seems kosher until the just after the kernel loads, the screen goes screwy. I'll try to work out what is causing the problem and keep you posted, and check periodically if anyone has an idea..

Update: In ver87 i get the same screwy screen but am able to boot into the OS. Note this isn't a video=ofonly problem. From what I've gathered from the net this could possibly have something to do with i2c and pmu conflicts. It would be helpful to know about the kernel configurations used to compile the ppc kernel.

Sucks to hear that... Unfortunately I only have limited access to PPC hardware (Mac Mini, iMac G3, and a PowerMac MDD) so it's hard to diagnose. However, to answer your question, the 88.0 kernels are based on Debian's linux-image-2.6.17-1-powerpc-smp_2.6.17-2 (http://snapshot.debian.net/archive/2006/07/01/debian/pool/main/l/linux-2.6/), with the addition of Squashfs 3.0 and Unionfs 1.3 patches. The kernel configs are on the CD in the /boot directory.
