Free promotional event LiveCD
- DEF CON 19, Las Vegas
The free promotional event LiveCD is a Finnix CD given out at conferences and events, to media and guests, and for other promotions.
- Finnix is a Linux-based bootable system administration and recovery CD. This CD is bootable on both x86 and PowerPC platforms, with support for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. Simply insert the CD and boot.
Is this the same CD image available from finnix.org?
The free event CD is a combination x86/PowerPC CD, not available online (though you can download the x86 and PowerPC images separately). It is the same combination build given to people who support Finnix, though the CD art is different. (Supporters receive a full-color high-quality glossy CD. The free event CD is a simpler design which also explains what Finnix is.)
I did not download and burn this myself. How can I verify it as coming from Finnix?
A copy of the GPG signature for the free event CD is available below. You can download this signature, then use it to verify the CD directly, for example:
$ gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys 203ECA25 gpg: requesting key 203ECA25 from hkp server pgp.mit.edu gpg: key 203ECA25: "Ryan Finnie <email@example.com>" imported gpg: Total number processed: 1 gpg: imported: 1 $ sudo gpg --verify finnix-comb.iso.gpg /dev/hdc gpg: Signature made Fri 22 Jul 2011 09:59:01 AM PDT using DSA key ID 203ECA25 gpg: Good signature from "Ryan Finnie <firstname.lastname@example.org>" gpg: aka "[jpeg image of size 4022]"
